About Poople Unlimited

Poople Unlimited is a free, independent companion to the daily word-ladder game Poople, built and run by one developer. This page says who that is, why the site exists, and exactly how the puzzles and answers are made.

Who makes it

Poople Unlimited is made by Ikuhei Kure, an independent developer based in Japan who builds small daily puzzle games for the web and iOS. The same person runs Krillion Unlimited, Tango Unlimited and the multi-game site Puzzlune. There is no company and no team: one person writes the code, checks the word lists and answers the mail.

Why it exists

The original Poople (poople.io) is a lovely small game with three limits: one puzzle a day, no way back to yesterday's, and no explanation when you finish. We wanted to practise, to replay the days we missed, and to see why a ladder was the shortest. Poople Unlimited is that: the same daily word as the original, every past day replayable with its full solution, unlimited practice in three difficulties, and a solver for any two words.

How the daily puzzle and answers are made

1. The start word and number are the original's. Poople publishes its schedule publicly; we follow it to the minute (08:00 UTC) so the puzzle here is the puzzle there.
2. Par is computed, not guessed. Every four-letter word in the original's public word list is a node; two words are joined when they differ by one letter. A breadth-first search from POOP gives the exact minimum for every word. That is the par shown on every page.
3. Every shortest ladder is listed. For each past day the site enumerates all shortest routes, classifies every legal first move (keeps par, costs one, costs more, dead end) and places the day in the distribution of all pars so far. Nobody has to trust us: the solver runs the same search in your browser.
4. Practice words are ours. Unlimited mode uses a larger list of 3,237 four-letter words graded by frequency, with every start word verified to have a shortest path of the advertised length.

What's different from poople.io

• Undo and hints; the original has neither.
• The shortest ladder after every finish, and the full analysis on each day's page.
• A free archive of every past day, replayable.
• Unlimited practice and a solver for any pair of words.

How the site runs

Poople Unlimited is a static website: no accounts, nothing to install, progress and stats in your own browser. It is supported by ads and free to play. Details are in the privacy policy.
