How to play Poople

Start with today's four-letter word, the same one as the original daily Poople. Type a new four-letter word that differs from the previous one by exactly one letter, in the same position, and press Enter. Keep going until your word is POOP. Letters that already match POOP in the right spot are highlighted, so you can see how close you are. Your score is the number of guesses you needed; the shortest possible ladder is shown when you finish.

Why Poople Unlimited uses the same word as the original

The original Poople publishes one start word a day at 08:00 UTC and keeps no archive. Poople Unlimited tracks that schedule exactly: the start word and puzzle number here are the original's, and the word list is the original's, so a par here is a par there. What we add is everything around the puzzle: undo, hints that point at the next useful letter, the shortest ladder when you finish, the full archive with every day's solution, and unlimited practice from our own, larger word list. We are not affiliated with poople.io.

What a good Poople looks like

Almost every short ladder passes through a word one step from POOP: LOOP, HOOP, COOP, POOL, POOR, POOF, PLOP or PROP. The skill is getting to one of those fast. Vowels are the hinge: a start word with no O usually needs two moves just to plant the O's in the middle, which is why par 5 is the most common length and par 7 or 8 days feel brutal. The daily puzzle is the original's word, solved by our own breadth-first search over its public word list. Unlimited puzzles come from a list of 3,237 four-letter words we assembled and graded by frequency, with every start word checked to have a known shortest path of the advertised length. What is Poople Unlimited?

Poople Unlimited is a free word ladder game: you start from a four-letter word and change one letter at a time, making a real word each step, until you reach POOP. It offers today's Poople, unlimited random puzzles in three difficulties, a playable archive of every past Poople, and a solver.

Is this the official Poople game?

No. The original Poople is the daily game at poople.io. Poople Unlimited is an independent fan-made site. The daily puzzle here uses the same starting word and puzzle number as the original, with undo and hints added, every past puzzle can be replayed in the archive, and unlimited mode has extra puzzles of our own. If you like the daily Poople and want more, this is a free way to keep playing.

Is today's puzzle the same as the original Poople?

Yes. The daily puzzle starts from the same word and carries the same number as the original game, and it uses the same word list. A new puzzle arrives every day at 08:00 UTC, the moment the original switches.

How is the score counted?

Your guesses are every word you typed after the starting word. The best possible score is the shortest ladder that exists in the dictionary. We show it after you finish, so you can see whether you found the shortest route.

Can I undo a step?

Yes. Unlike the original, you can undo your last word at any time and try a different path. Undo does not change your stats.

Do I need an account?

No account, no download, no sign-in. Progress and stats are saved in your browser.

What is par?

Par is the fewest guesses that can possibly reach POOP from the day's start word, found by searching every route in the word list. Most Pooples have par 5; a par 7 or 8 is a genuinely hard day. Every past day's page shows par, every shortest ladder, and which first moves keep you on it.
